Pulp Fiction

IMDB After studying the clues carefully, pouring over interviews, outtakes, research and lost footage I can safely and accurately say that I know, without a doubt, what was REALLY in the suitcase: A lightbulb.

Seattle Public Library

I'll leave the fawning for the critics, but I will mention that Christine and I walked the magnificent new library today. The only negative is the tired joke about Rem Koolhaas' name (Koolhaas = "cool house." Get it? Architectural aptonym. Get it? Get it?). We walked the Dewey stacks from 990 Rest of the World to 000 General Works without once walking down a stair. They handed out little paper cut-out models of the building. Although I'm leaving the words to the more talented writers, I am perfectly willing to besmirch the good name of the fine photographers who have taken much better photos than I could. You can witness it here in my slide show.

Seattle International Film Festival, Secret Fest, Film 1

I can't link to this movie on IMDB. I can't even name the movie. I can't reveal that I've seen it because I've signed (well, Kent signed in lieu of me, but that's another story) a contract that I wouldn't. But, see, this blog is to track the movies that I've seen, so I have to track it. What's a guy to do? I decided that I would make a cyptic Haiku that will allow me to remember what movie it was. You, my reading audience, will not be able to tell because the haiku refers to my sense of the movie and not really the title or anything. Anybody who wishes to guess what movie it was in my comments is welcome, but I may erase the comment if you get it right. Commentary on my poor poetry may not be deleted (depending on how merciless you are), but I will hex you with vile thoughts. Saint Sofia, your dome is cut in raven black. Let's go out tonight.

We interrupt this quip with a quote: "our basic human desire to see other people suffer used to be fulfilled by the comic strip the Lockhorns" says Christine, in relation to the popularity of reality tv shows.

Herbie, oh Herbie, where for art thou Herbie?

When the new VW Beetles were re-released in 1998 I asked the question on everybody's lips: "How long until a new Herbie the Love Bug movie?" My questions have been answered: 7 years. Longer than I would have predicted. I wonder how many pitches and scripts they had to go through before they finall greelighted this one.
